Destined by PC Cast- have I ever mentioned how much I love the House of Night series? And that its a million times more awesome than Twilight could ever hope to be? It has Cherokee Indian Legend, Wicca, magic, and vampires.. This is number.. 6? 7? in the series, start at the beginning or you will be LOST.

Death Cure by James Dashner- last in the Maze Runner trilogy.. not goin to talk about it because lots of people havent read it.. If you liked the Hunger Games, then this series is a good choice.

The Dragon Who Loved Me by GA Aiken- great romantic fantasy about dragon shapeshifters. This is a ROMANCE. But still neat as hell. This is number.. 4.. or 5.. start at the beginning!!  You know how I am about series :D

What I have read while I was.. not posting..

Blood Ties by Sharon Sala- excellent ending to a romantic suspense trilogy.. Loved it.

Only His by Susan Mallery- for a nice, light romance, Susan Mallery hits it on the spot. I couldnt put it down.

The Affair by Lee Child- loved it.. havent met one of this guy's mysteries that I didnt like actually, but come on.. Tom Cruise playing a 6'5" ex Army MP in the movie for One Shot? Serious disappointment.

The Fallen 3 by Tom Snieg.. sneig. ugh I can never spell this guys name! Sniegoski. There.. This is a great young adult series about Fallen Angels... part of it was made into a tv miniseries.. just called Fallen.. it was cute.

Bring Me Home for Christmas by Robyn Carr- I loved it.. I love all of Robyn Carr's books, but the Virgin River series is amazing. Nice, light read, not alot of thinkin involved. good romance.. the characters are fantastic! Reaccuring characters, so start at the beginning with Virgin River..

Carrier of the Mark by Leigh Fallon - great young adult paranormal book .. Irish mythology involved.. cant wait for a sequel!

Maggie Stiefvater

So, I read, and enjoyed Shiver.. I read.. sort of enjoyed Linger.. I did not read Forever. Who the heck prints a book in pink? Shiver was in kind of a silvery color, not too bad.. Linger was in a greenish color.. not too bad.. The pink print was so difficult that I did not get 10 pages into Forever before I put it down. Frustrating!

Next, the Scorpio Races.. WEIRD. Interesting story, with the man eating horses that emerge from the sea, catch them, train them, ride in a race where they are just as likely to pull a rider off and eat him as run.. I just could not get into this book. I struggled through halfway and put it down. It had such great reviews! Im sad

The Iron Knight by Julie Kagawa

So, I loved Kagawa's Iron Fey series. Its a young adult series.. about fairies.. not all goodness and light here people!! I absolutely adored this series, and am sad to say that Iron Knight was the finally. I think Julie did an excellent job. You guys know me, I dont like to spoil whats in a book.. Its good, its not good is about as far as I go.. PLEASE READ THIS SERIES!!!!!!!!!

Inheritance by Chris Paolini

Okay, so has no one on Earth finished this book for me to talk to about it!? I haven't met anyone yet! I Refuse to do spoilers.. but OMG it was AMAZZZZZZZZZZZZZZING.. Okay so the first half of the book was a little slow going, but LOVED IT! Good job, young jedi warrior :P

Almost December!

My gosh its almost December and I haven't had a blog since September, Im so sorry peoples!! Lemme see if I can remember what Ive read :)

John Flanagan- The Brotherband Chronicles - Outcasts    : a GREAT new series by the author of the Rangers Apprentice series.. This one was just as good as the other ones!

Also Flanagan: The Rangers Apprentice -  The Lost Stories    : this one kind of fills in the blanks, some stories that happened between and after the series. Very Enjoyable!

Pamela Palmer- Ecstacy Untamed - a great new book in the Feral Warriors series..

More coming, in different posts.

Heather Brewer, Slayer Chronicles First Kill

Remember the Chronicles of Vladimir Tod? You so have to check out the Slayer Chronicles.  This series follows Joss, our enigmatic slayer from the Vladimir Tod books. This book goes backwards in time and tells us what happens before Vladimir Tod.. What happened to Joss' sister.. and how he became a slayer. I enjoyed it ALOT!  Still has the same feel as the Vladimir Tod books.. funny and serious at the same time.

Drink Slay Love by Sarah Beth Durst

This is one of the best young adult paranormal books I have read in awhile.  It is about Pearl, a teenage vampire. She is the sterotypical mean girl, thinking of humans as food.  Then, she is stabbed in the heart.. by a unicorn. Hehehehehe.  She can talk in sunlight and has a reflection. She learns that her Family gets to host the king, and now, it is her duty to provide a feast for him (of the human kind).  Her Family decides the best way to do this, is for her to go to human high school, insert herself in their society, and provide them as the feast. Its funny as well as shows some of the weird emotions teenagers go through. I thoroughly enjoyed it! And.. lala, there sounds like there will be a sequel. YAY!

Justice by Karen Robards

Aha, something NOT paranormal!! Woohoo! Anyways, this book is sequel to Robard's last book Pursuit. ... this is the first series that Robards has done, but I enjoy them.. Its considered a "romantic mystery"..  Jessica Ford is the main character and she is in a car accident that kills the First Lady, and so of course runs for her life.  Well, in book 2, Justice, she is in hiding, sort of, but becomes a famous lawyer when she breaks a case, so of course, bad guys are after her again and love interest, the Secret Service Agent, is back around..

I do like these books.. Ugh, I dont know what else to say lol

Retribution by Sherrilyn Kenyon.. sad.. but true..

So, anyone who really knows me, will know that I ADORE Kenyon. I am a total minion.  I pray upon Acheron n stuff.  The greek mythology, the Atlantis stuff, the shapeshifters, this series has everything I want in a book. Until now.

This is book like 60 (or more like 16 or 17) in this series.  Somewhere along the way, Kenyon has lost her original characters and storyline.  Retribution follows Sundown, a Dark Hunter we met in early books but didn't have a big presence.  He's a gunslinger from the 1800's West.. But then Kenyon goes off into this Cherokee Indian and other tribes mythologies.  I miss the Greek myth. I miss Ash. I miss Nick (see post on Winging It to see how I feel about the Chronicles of Nick young adult series).  There's half as many words on the pages as can actually fit. Its as many words that would fit into a paperback, but they spread em out and made lots of white space on the page, just so they can print it in Hardcover and make more money.

Kenyon is starting to lose her minions, sad to say. The book was fine, read it because its hers, but don't buy it, borrow it from the public library.

Room by Emma Donoghue

Okay, so this was a WEIRD book. I liked it, but it was WEIRD.  Jack's mother was kidnapped at age 19 and has been kept in a room ever since.  (Yes, she had a child with her kidnapper).  Jack is just turning five in the start of the book, and the book is told from his point of view.  Jack has never been outside the room. Everything in the room is like a sentient being.. Table.. Chair.. Bed.. Wardrobe (where he sleeps).  Spoiler alert!! Jack and his mother escape and have to acclimate to the Outside.

As I said, it was REALLY weird, but yet again, I really liked it.  I just wish there was more. I want to know what happens AFTER, yanno? So, read it, and be prepared for weird :D

Winging it by Deborah Cooke.. Young Adult

So, I love Deborah Cooke's DragonFire series.. This is a spinoff series made for young adults. If you remember, in the adult paranormal romance novels, Zoe is just a baby. In this YA series, she is a teenager, and just growing into her powers as Wyvern..  She goes to a dragon boot camp, along with the sons of the people from previous books. There's some new twists and turns.

Honestly, I DO NOT LIKE when an author takes characters from an adult series and starts a young adult series (eh, EM Sherrilyn Kenyon).  I want adult books about these characters, and with an new young adult series going, it means it will be FOREVER before we get a book. That just makes me mad.

I did like this one tho. Theres another scheduled for December and another in Spring 2012 so yay.

Throne of Fire by Rick Riordan

Appears that a couple months ago, I promised a post about this book. I loved it! This is an interesting series by this author, because it is told in first person.. by two characters.  Brother and sister Carter and Sadie, and this series is about the Egyptian gods.. Throne of Fire is number two in the Kane Chronicles, Red Pyramid is the first.  The other interesting thing about the way the book is written, is that it is told as if they characters were recording it on a voice recorder. It's rather neat!  So, Sadie and Carter are trying to save the world from nasty Egyptian Gods with the help of other gods.. who are sometimes helpful and sometimes not.
So thats all I have to say about the book, except I like them alot.. course, there's not a whole lot of stuff that I blog about that I don't like.. :D

Tera Lynn Childs.. young adult author

For readers of Twilight, who want something a little more light hearted, Tera Lynn Childs is a great read.

She has, so far, two series.  Oh.My.Gods. and the sequel Goddess Boot Camp... and Forgive My Fins and Fins are Forever.

OMGs is about a teenage girl who's mother marries this Greek dude, and they have to move to Greece. She ends up going to a private school that is full of people that are descended from Greek gods.

FaF is about a mermaid princess, livin her teenage years on shore with her mother's sister.  She returns to the sea for visits n stuff tho.  I really liked this series! They are fun, flirty, and just downright enjoyable!

She has a new series starting later this year, the first book is titled Sweet Venom, and it apprears to have another Greek theme, about 3 teenage girls who are descended from Medusa).

So, these books are all really good, that's my comment, lol.

Starcrossed by Josephine Angeline

I adored this book. It has an interesting reincarnation Greek myth theme to it. Its supposed to be the first in a trilogy and I hope I dont have to wait a whole year for another one!!!!  Anyways, great young adult book.

Yes, Im still here and still reading.. George Martin

Sorry, haven't been posting much.  Been busy with things, but Ive still been reading!! I will start with... George Martin..
I love, love, love, love these books. BUT oh my word, they are are intense. Long winded, characters coming out the wazoo, but they are really, really good.  I can't really describe them. Most people recognize the title "Game of Thrones" from the HBO series that started earlier this year. The first season of the show pretty well follows the first book, so I hear. I haven't seen them yet..

I just finished the 4th book in the series, and started on the 5th.  I stopped, though, after looking at Martin's website.  There were six years between book 4 and book 5.  Martin say's he doesn't want to write strictly fantasy (he also writes articles and sci-fi and various other things).  But, I dont wan't to finish this book and have to wait  6 years for a book. From what I can see, there are 2 scheduled yet.  Six years between, that would be another 12 years! That is just wrong to do to the fans, seriously.  So, haven't made up my mind yet on if I am going to finish it.

So, more to come.. of other things I have read :D

Rachel Vincent's Shifter Series

I finished the first book and am almost finished with book 2. I really enjoy this series! And I have alllll of them at home, through book 6 which was released recently. They are shapeshifters (black panthers). It's an urban fantasy, following Faythe Sanders and her escipades. I like them alot!

Dead Reckoning by Charlaine Harris

Eh. It was okay.. I wasn't too thrilled with the last one either. There needs to be some new kick to the series. Something major, although I think that will come in the next book. This one, there wasn't alot of new stuff happening. I'll hang on til next year and see what happens I guess..

Next up: Throne of Fire by Rick Riordan,  Kane Chronicles Book 2

Dragon Bound by Thea Harrison

This was a great debut paranormal romance by author Thea Harrison. I liked the story, the characters, but I wish there was more background information on the Elder Races! The series is called the Elder Races series, so I am sure that it's going to be more than just the dragons.. I know the next one is about the new queen of the Dark Elf court. That is out this summer. Yay!

Darkfire Kiss by Deborah Cooke

I absolutely loved it! I'm currently obsessed with dragon shapeshifter books, so this one was right up my alley! This is #5 in the series. There hasn't been a bad one yet!

Updates on books I have read

Nora Roberts- Chasing Fire... I had a hard time with this book. The basic storyline about the smoke jumpers was really interesting! But, no one died til halfway through the book, and I figured out who did it pretty quickly :(

Sherrilyn Kenyon- Born of Shadows- Number four in this league series. I loved it, just as I enjoyed the others. Yes, it is a sci-fi romance, but that is kind of kept in the backseat. There's mentions of other worlds, they ride in a spaceship, and there are different races, however, you can easily stick a thought in your head that they are traveling by car to different countries.

Reading now: Dragon Bound by Thea Harrison.. This is a really interesting start to a new paranormal romance series. I only have a few pages left and I really enjoyed it.
Darkfire Kiss by Deborah Cooke. I am only about 20 pages into this so far, but I have absolutely loved the previous books in this series (another paranormal romance series).

Charlaine Harris- Dead Reckoning- I'm about halfway through this one (yes I am actually reading four books at once) and it's a bit better than the last one.

Lastly, ... Caris Roane- Burning Skies- I really liked the first book in this series. So far, I am liking this second book. Third is released in .. May or June.

I also will be starting Throne of Fire (Kane Chronicles book 2) by Rick Riordan this week. YAY!

I will report back with how I liked each of these books :)

Books I read this week..

Rangers Apprentice #10 Emporor of Nihon-Ja.... This was a great book. I have loved the entire series!  This is supposedly the ending of the series, however.. I think he left it a bit open to continue it in a different direction, maybe new characters... I hope so at least!

Eona: the Last Dragoneye by Alison Goodman.. Book #2.. I think this series is ending with the second one, but it was great. Young Adult fantasy.  In the first book, Eon is actually an EonA, who has for several years been pretending to be a boy. Forced into it, actually. Anyways, if you like dragons, and are enchanted with Asian mythology and stuff, this would be good. Gah, loved 'em so much, I bought them.

Nora Roberts' new book Chasing Fire.. yeah, having to force myself to read it. I like the story line, about smoke jumpers in Montana. But, nobody dies until halfway through the book. *sigh* Very disappointed, because her last book "The Search" was sooooo good.

Currently reading "Red Glove" by Holly Black, sequel to "White Cat". Its an interesting mix of witchcraft, called curseworking, and the mob and private schools. I enjoyed the first one. We will see what happens with this second one.

Plague by Michael Grant

Number Four in the Gone series by Michael Grant continues to follow the kids of the FAYZ, the area surrounded by a dome where kids are developing powers and animals are mutants. When the done appeared, everyone over the age of 15 disappeared. Just.. POOF. Anyways, I love this series, but I think I am getting ready for it to end. That sounds terrible doesn't it? But yes, even though I really enjoy them, I think its time for the dome to come down.

Eternal Rider by Larrisa Ione

This is a nice spin-off series from the Demonica series. Lots of old characters pop in. This new set is about the Four Horseman of the Apocalypse.  This first book is about Ares, who would become War. His brother Reseph's Seal has broken and he is now Pestilence. Pestilence is trying to murder the person who holds the key to Ares' Seal, so that Ares will become War, the apocalypse happens, and evil reigns.  I really enjoyed this book. And Hal, the hellhound, is cute, lol.

Reading.. Where did it go?

I haven't been reading a whole lot lately. I mistakenly found this game on facebook called "Dragons of Atlantis" and I am completely addicted to it. Luckily, there are times when long upgrades have to be done, so that has become reading time (and in between attacking camps and wilderness lol). Help me! I am addicted! Anyways, I am reading the new Gena Showalter book, and I re-read "Ruins of Gorlan" the first book in the Rangers Apprentice series by John Flanagan. So Good!

Suzanne Brockmann's new book

Yesterday, I finished the book "Breaking the Rules" by Suzanne Brockmann. This is one of her Navy Seal Team 16/Troubleshooters Inc books. And, of course, I loved it. There isnt one that I haven't liked!

New books?

Sorry there hasn't been a more recent post. I can't say I have read anything this last week that has warranted a post.  "Blessed" by Cynthia Smith (young adult book) was pretty good, but there are two previous books that help this one make sense....

"Afterlife" by Claudia Gray (young adult book) was pretty good, and ended the story between Bianca and Luke. Gray is continuing Balthazar's story (yay!) in 2012.

Jennifer Ashley's Shifter series is pretty book. The second boo, "Primal Bonds", came out recently, and I rather enjoyed those.

That's all for now. If I can drag myself away from my new facebook game "Dragons of Atlantis" to do some reading, I will post again later this weekend!

Bookies!

Have y'all seen the movie "Finding Nemo" Remember the fish in the tank.. "Bubbles!... my bubbles!" .. Well, thats me with my books. Im such a dork, but it is true.  I wanted to tell y'all, to get off ure duffs and read my blog, follow it, comment on it. Tell me what you are reading! Do I want to read it? Is there something y'all really liked that I could suggest to the readers at the library I work at? Help me out people! Im gonna keep writing, and posting to facebook, because I'm a dork and its stuff that I know someone will want lol, if not you personally. K, Off my high horse. Gonna, of course, go read for a bit before bed. I'm reading "Never Again" by Michelle Bardsley. New author/series for me.

Maximum Ride

Well, I finished all seven books in 2 days. I 'bout cried. No more. At least for a year. :(       I am sad. The books are full of action, just keep moving, not alot of down time. The main character, Max, I love her! She's sarcastic and funny and bossy (all of which she needs to be). *sigh* Ya just gotta read 'em, even though they are young adult.  Ive decided to try reading his Daniel X alien series.

James Patterson's Young Adult Books

I have never read any of Patterson's adult books.  Everyone says how good they are, but Ive never taken the time to read them.. A year ago, I read the first Witch & Wizard book and I loved it. So last December when the sequel came out, I devoured it. I've always looked at the Maximum Ride series, about the bird kids, and thought.... "um.. no". For years I have gone past them to something else on the shelf. So, last week, I got a hair up my.. um nose, and decided to read them. So I checked them all out. I started book one "The Angel Experiment" last night.. and wouldn't ya know it. I am hooked. Thank gods I  have all 7 books at home, because I would go nuts if I couldn't read them in order, right now. Y'all know how I am. So, anyways, I will report back after I am a couple of books into the series. See, I did that with Evanovich.. For 5 years I refused to read her, and now? Im hooked.

Happy Books

So, I've given you Picoult, Ive whined about Bishop, now I'm gonna give ya a few books that are just good, happy reads.

Linda Lael Miller- Nice, modern (some historical) cowboy romances. the McKettricks, the Montana Creeds, then the Arizona (I think!) Creeds. They are all related, however distantly. They are not heavy reading. They are some of those books that you can sit and read and not worry about thinking.

Robyn Carr- Virgin River series. Love em. Starts with Mel and Jack and spreads. There are always recurring characters, but each new book follows two new man characters.

Catherine Anderson- Coulter/Kendrick/Harrigan series. Theres 10 or 11 of these now. Only problem, in every book there is something wrong with the female. Abused, blind, wheelchair bound, head injury, abused again.. That's kind of annoying after awhile, but I still love 'em!

Anne Bishop.. How could you...

Now, I just want to remind people that, as this is MY blog, and it is to express MY opinions, I don't want any whining and complaining when I say that I (and I rarely use this word) Bishop's new book "Twilight's Dawn". Now, everyone knows that I get highly attached to certain books and characters. Well, this is one that I am attached to. I started reading the Black Jewels series about 7 or so years ago. It's a fantasy series, my first foray into fantasy after reading Harry Potter. I won't go into the major details, but the main character's name is Jaenelle (hehehe).
Anyways, Bishop decided to end the Black Jewels series with this "Twilight's Dawn" which is a collection of four stories, things I guess she thought we missed that happened between other stories, so she wrote them and put them in this collection. The first three stories are fine. I wouldn't say her best work, but little tidbits of information. The last story, however, is an abomination (PLEASE remember that this is my blog with my opinions!) I am not going to spoil it, for everyone else. But, I will tell you, I was happy to run across a review of the book before I finished it. I would rather read that review than be blindsided by how Bishop destroyed a perfectly good series. Okay, I have ranted and raved, and now I will go. Adios!

River Marked by Patricia Briggs

Yay a new Mercy Thompson book! I loved it. I don't want to do any spoilers so I won't tell what happened.  This is a series about Mercy, a coyote shapeshifter who runs a mechanic shop. In this series you will find werewolves, vampires, fae, and all kinds of weird stuff. I love em!

The Chaos- Numb8ers by Rachel Ward

Just Wow. This is a sequel to the book Numb8ers by Rachel Ward. In the first book, a teenager named Jem sees numbers. Specifally, when she looks at a person, she sees a date, that person's date of death. In this sequel, Jem's son Adam also sees numbers, but he also sees and feels the pain of that death.  In London, he sees the same number on almost everyone. The end of days is here, can Adam stop it?

I love these books. They certainly are not your happy teenage novel, and there's quite a bit of cursing in it. But, its awesome.

"Angelfire" by Courtney Moulton

This is a great new Young Adult paranormal book. I'm actually only about a quarter of the way through it, but I'm thoroughly enjoying it. I read the author's bio, and it turns out that she wrote this book during NaNoWriMo in 2008 (she was only like 21 or so!) and afterwards got an agent, and sold this book (and the two to come in the trilogy) to HarperCollins (well, an imprint, same dif). Totally awesome (I participated in NaNoWriMo last November, even though I didn't get my book finished). I will return later with more info on this book!

"Sing You Home" by Jodi Picoult

Wow, I finished this book this morning, and just wow! I was disappointed in the last two books she has written. Zoe and Max have been trying to have a baby for awhile, first through normal ways, then through in virtro. But this time, Max can't take it anymore. After the stillbirth of their son, Max asks for a divorce. Then he finds God. Zoe continues to have health troubles, but finds a wonderful new friend, Vanessa. Then the usual court battle starts. Both want the last three embryos that are frozen at the fertility clinic.  I'm not revealing the big twist in this book, since Picoult left it out of the book jacket. But its a GREAT book! READ IT!
